Legal Information
Last updated: 2 November 2026. This legal information page applies to the whole of the website published under the name Detectlo.net, including its magazine articles, image galleries, newsletters, contact form and any commercial or sponsored content that appears on it. It is a standing notice that we keep under review, and it should be read together with the other policy documents listed in section 10 below. It is written in plain, accessible language because the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 requires consumer-facing documents to be understandable without legal training.
1. Who operates this website
The website published under the name Detectlo.net is owned, published and operated by Farfield Ventures (Pty) Ltd, a private company incorporated in the Republic of South Africa in terms of the Companies Act 71 of 2008. The company is a magazine publisher, and this website is the digital home of its entertainment, celebrity culture and lifestyle journalism. Unless the context clearly indicates otherwise, the words we, us, our and the operator refer to Farfield Ventures (Pty) Ltd, and the word you refers to any person who visits, reads, subscribes to or otherwise uses this website.
The operator is the responsible publisher of everything that appears here, including editorial articles, interviews, photographs, illustrations, video, newsletters and any advertising or sponsored material that we accept for publication. Where content is supplied by third parties, such as freelance journalists, photographers, picture agencies, publicists, syndication partners or contributors who write under their own names, we remain the publisher of the website, but the individual intellectual property rights described in section 6 below may belong to those third parties rather than to us.
The responsible representative of the operator, and the person who exercises final editorial, compliance and legal control over the website, is Gunnar Oberhosel, a director of the company. Day-to-day editorial decisions are taken by the appointed editorial team, which can be reached at help@detectlo.net for corrections, rights of reply and general editorial matters.
This is a commercial publication. It carries advertising, sponsored features and commercial partnerships, and it is not a public service, a charity, a state news agency or an official source of emergency, medical, legal or financial information.
2. Legal form, registration details, tax status and responsible representatives
Section 43 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 requires a person or business that offers goods or services on a website in South Africa to disclose certain identity and contact information. Section 32 of the Companies Act 71 of 2008 similarly requires a company to state its full registered name and registration number on its website and on other documents. The following details satisfy those requirements.
- Full legal name: Farfield Ventures (Pty) Ltd.
- Legal form: private company, incorporated with limited liability in the Republic of South Africa.
- Country of incorporation: South Africa.
- Company registration number: 2026/014818/07, issued by the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC).
- Responsible representative: Gunnar Oberhosel, director.
- Value-added tax status: the operator is not registered for value-added tax. No VAT is charged on any amount you pay, and no VAT is included in any price shown on this website.
- Self-regulatory membership: the operator is not a member of any self-regulatory body and does not subscribe to an external code of conduct. Where we choose to follow recognised editorial standards, we do so voluntarily and they do not create enforceable third-party rights.
- Information Officer: for the purposes of the Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 and the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013, the operator has appointed an Information Officer. Requests for access to records, and privacy queries or objections, may be addressed to the Information Officer at help@detectlo.net.
Nothing on this website should be read as a licence, a professional accreditation or a regulatory approval. We are a publisher, not a licensed financial services provider, health practitioner, attorney or estate agent, and we do not offer any regulated professional service.
3. Registered office and how to reach us
Our registered office, which is the address at which we accept service of legal documents and formal notices, is 15 Wellington Road, Durbanville, Cape Town, 7550, South Africa. You may also reach us by email at help@detectlo.net. Written enquiries are preferred because they create a clear record for both sides, and they allow us to route your query to the correct person quickly. If you would rather write to us using a form, the Contacts page of this website contains a contact form that delivers your message to the same inbox.
We aim to reply to legitimate correspondence within a reasonable period, and in the case of a consumer complaint we will acknowledge it and deal with it within the timeframes that the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 requires of suppliers. If your message concerns a specific article, please include the headline, the publication date and the address of the page so that we can identify it without delay.
Please do not send us unsolicited creative material, manuscripts, story pitches of a confidential nature or original photographs through the contact form, because we cannot guarantee confidentiality for material that arrives uninvited. If you wish to submit work for publication, ask us first at help@detectlo.net and we will tell you which route to use and what terms will apply.
4. Purpose, scope and intended audience of this website
Detectlo.net is an English-language entertainment magazine. Its purpose is to report on and comment on celebrity culture, the entertainment industry, film, television, music, streaming, red-carpet events, awards, reality programming and the broader popular-culture conversation in South Africa and internationally. It also carries interviews, opinion columns, picture essays, listings, reviews and commercial content that is clearly marked as such.
The website is intended for a general adult readership. It is not directed at children, and it is not designed as a children's product. Some articles discuss adult themes, legal disputes, allegations, relationship matters, addiction, grief or other sensitive subjects, and some images may be unsuitable for younger readers. Parents and guardians are responsible for supervising the use of this website by minors in their care. Where we report on allegations, we do so as reporting and commentary, and publication of an allegation is not a statement that the allegation is true.
The content on this website is editorial and general in nature. It is not professional advice of any kind, and it must not be relied on as legal, medical, financial, psychological or safety advice. If you need advice of that kind, consult a suitably qualified professional in your own jurisdiction.
5. Access to the website and acceptable use
Access to the editorial content of this website is free of charge and does not require you to create an account, although certain features such as newsletters, competitions or comment facilities may require you to supply an email address so that we can identify you and contact you. We may add, change, restrict or withdraw features, sections or the whole website at any time, and we may suspend access for maintenance, security or legal reasons.
By using this website you agree that you will not do any of the following:
- use the website for any unlawful purpose, or in a way that infringes the rights of the operator, our contributors or any third party;
- copy, scrape, crawl, harvest, mirror or systematically download content, images, contact details or metadata by automated means, whether for a search index, a language model, a data set or any other purpose, without our prior written permission;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the website, its servers, its databases or the accounts of other users;
- introduce viruses, ransomware, spyware, adware or any other harmful code or material;
- interfere with the proper working of the website, including by overloading it, blocking its comment facilities or circumventing security or access controls;
- post or transmit defamatory, hateful, harassing, threatening, discriminatory, obscene or deliberately misleading material in any comment area, competition entry or message sent to us;
- impersonate another person, or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or organisation;
- use our trade marks, masthead, logos or article headlines in a way that falsely suggests endorsement, partnership or authorship.
We may remove any contribution, block any user or take technical and legal steps where we reasonably believe that these rules have been broken. Reasonable, non-commercial use such as reading the site, sharing a link, quoting a short extract with clear attribution and a reference back to the original page, or downloading a page for your own personal reference is welcome and does not require permission.
6. Our content, trade marks and intellectual property
All content on this website, including text, headlines, articles, interviews, opinion pieces, photographs, illustrations, graphics, video, audio, page layouts, design elements, data compilations and the selection and arrangement of the content as a whole, is protected by copyright, trade mark, database and other intellectual property laws. The rights are owned by Farfield Ventures (Pty) Ltd or are licensed to it, or belong to the individual contributors, photographers, agencies or syndication partners who supplied the material.
The magazine name, the masthead, the logo and any associated slogans are trade marks of the operator or are used under licence. Nothing on this website grants you any right, title or interest in those marks, and you may not use them in advertising, in a product name, in a domain name or in any way that is likely to confuse readers about the source of your own goods or services.
You may not reproduce, republish, syndicate, translate, adapt, distribute, sell, rent, frame, deep-link into, publicly perform or commercially exploit any part of this website without our prior written consent. In particular, you may not use our journalism, photographs or image galleries to train, fine-tune, benchmark or otherwise develop a machine-learning model, and you may not present our content as the output of your own publication or service. Requests for reprints, licensing, syndication, archive access or permission to use a photograph should be sent to help@detectlo.net, together with details of the intended use, the audience and the duration.
If you believe that material published on this website infringes your copyright, your image rights or any other right, write to us at help@detectlo.net with the page address, a description of the material, an explanation of your right and your contact details. We will investigate promptly and, where the complaint is well founded, remove or amend the material.
7. Accuracy, availability and limitations of liability
We take editorial care and we correct genuine errors when they are brought to our attention, but we do not warrant that every item published on this website is accurate, complete, current or suitable for any particular purpose. Entertainment reporting often relies on publicists, court papers, social media, press releases and unnamed sources, and it evolves quickly. Where a person or organisation considers that a report about them is inaccurate, they may ask us at help@detectlo.net for a correction, a clarification or an opportunity to respond. We will consider every such request on its merits, having regard to fairness and to the public interest in the story.
We aim to keep the website available, but access is provided on an as-is and as-available basis. We do not promise uninterrupted, timely, secure or error-free availability, and we may suspend or withdraw the website, in whole or in part, without notice, for maintenance, security, legal or business reasons. We are not responsible for any loss caused by an interruption that is outside our reasonable control, including failures in telecommunications networks, hosting infrastructure, power supply or your own equipment.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator, its directors, employees, contributors and agents are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, for loss of profit, revenue, data, reputation or opportunity, or for any loss arising from your reliance on editorial content, from third-party content, from comments posted by readers or from any external website that you reach from this website. Nothing in this legal information page excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, and nothing here affects any right you may have under that Act or under the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act.
8. External links, embedded content and third-party services
Our articles frequently contain links to, or embedded content from, external websites and platforms, including social networks, video hosts, ticketing services, news wires and the websites of celebrities, studios and event organisers. These are provided for the reader's convenience and for context. We do not control those services, we do not endorse their content or their privacy practices, and we are not responsible for their accuracy, availability, security or legality. When you follow a link or interact with embedded content, the terms and privacy policies of the third party will apply to you, and you should read them before providing any personal information or making any payment.
Advertising displayed on this website may be served by third-party advertising partners, and embedded social media posts may set their own cookies or similar technologies on your device. Where required by law, we ask for your consent through the site-wide cookie banner before non-essential cookies are set. Further detail is given in our Cookie Policy and in our Privacy Policy.
9. Advertising, sponsorship and editorial independence
This website is funded by advertising, sponsored features, commercial partnerships and sales of magazine-related products. We label sponsored and advertorial content clearly so that readers can tell it apart from independent journalism, and we do not permit an advertiser to dictate the content of our editorial coverage. Where an article contains an affiliate link and we may earn a commission from a purchase you make, we disclose that in the article itself. Any complaint about advertising on the website, including advertising that you believe is misleading, may be sent to help@detectlo.net and will be investigated by the person responsible for commercial content.
10. Personal information, cookies and the other policies that apply
When you browse this website, subscribe to a newsletter, enter a competition or send us a message through the contact form, we process personal information. We do so as a responsible party under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013, which means that we must have a lawful basis for the processing, that we may only use the information for the purpose for which it was collected, that we must keep it secure, and that you have rights of access, correction, deletion and objection. Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, how long we keep it and with whom we share it, and it sets out how to exercise your rights and how to complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.
We also use cookies and similar technologies to keep the website working, to remember your cookie choices, to measure readership and to support advertising. Our Cookie Policy describes each category of cookie, the purposes for which it is used and how you can withdraw or change your consent at any time through the cookie banner or your browser settings.
The following documents form part of the terms on which you use this website and should be read alongside this page: our Privacy Policy, our Cookie Policy, our Terms and Conditions, and our Payment and Refund Policy. Where those documents deal with a matter more specifically than this page does, the more specific document applies to that matter. If you buy a product or subscription through this website, our Terms and Conditions and our Payment and Refund Policy govern that transaction, and they record your statutory right to cancel an electronic transaction within the cooling-off period permitted by section 44 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002.
11. Your consumer rights and how to complain
As a consumer in South Africa you have the right to information in plain and understandable language, the right to fair and honest dealing, the right to fair terms and conditions, the right to good quality goods and services, and the right to redress. If something goes wrong with a purchase, a subscription, a competition or a service we provide, please tell us first at help@detectlo.net and give us the chance to put it right. We would far rather resolve a problem directly than have it escalate.
If we cannot resolve the matter between us, you may refer it to the National Consumer Commission, to a consumer court or ombud with jurisdiction over the industry concerned, or to any other forum that the law allows, such as the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud. Privacy complaints may be taken to the Information Regulator. Nothing in this page limits your right to approach a court or a regulator, and nothing here requires you to waive any right that the Consumer Protection Act gives you.
12. Applicable law and jurisdiction
This website is operated from South Africa and is governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa, including the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002, the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, the Companies Act 71 of 2008, the Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 and the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013. Subject to any mandatory consumer protection that gives you the right to sue in your own local court, disputes arising out of or in connection with this website will be dealt with by the courts of the Republic of South Africa. We do not represent that the content of this website is appropriate or lawful for use in every country, and readers who access it from elsewhere do so on their own initiative and are responsible for compliance with their local laws.
13. Changes to this page
We may update this legal information page from time to time to reflect changes in our business, our practices or the law. The version published on this page is the current version, and the date at the top of the page shows when it was last updated. Where a change is material, we will draw attention to it on the website, and where the law requires your consent to a change we will ask for it. Continued use of the website after a change takes effect means that you accept the updated page. If you have a question about this page, about the way we publish information about ourselves, or about any of the policies it refers to, write to us at help@detectlo.net or use the contact form on our Contacts page.
